In which it's on like Comic Con

I'm back again, for my annual blog about cosplay. These days I have many other digital places I hang out in, but the blog has to be the spot to drop the Comic Con photos every year! This Spring I came as SheRa, Princess of Power from the new Netflix version of the show.

Highlights from the weekend:
  • Being with friends all day for the whole thing, 2 days of fun and gushing over the other brilliant cosplayers. The buzz of the event is just amazing.
  • One of the things I love most about cosplay is being someone's hero. My other favourite year was being Erza from Fairy Tail, and in both cases it's really magical when little kids are delighted to see you. I understand the appeal of being a Disneyland princess.  So two of these were when I met a little SheRa cosplayer, maybe 4 or 5 who wanted a picture with me And when I let a tiny Rey cosplayer hold up my sword and shout "For the Honor of Greyskull!"
  • Doing Best Friend Squad photos with a Glimmer and Bow cosplay pair from SheRa.
  • Meeting a Catra who said "Heeeey Adoora..." every time she walked by, leaving me blushing, just like SheRa would.
  • Taking selfies with a Kassandra cosplayer from Assassin's Creed Odyssey, my favourite game of the year. She looked absolutely perfect.
  • Buying some awesome goodies for myself. My favourite being a set of Japanese teacups.
  • The Cosplay Masquerade competition. I think this was the best year yet for it. In part because they didn't mess around, it was more tightly run, straight from one person to the next. They actually told you who won the competition too - before they kicked you out of the venue before the winner is announced by the judges. And finally because the winner was mind-blowingly incredible, and they came back out after the announcement and I got to see it up close. It was a bird costume unlike any other. 500 lights inside it. Shining with glitter.

Tom went as Cayde-6 from the game Destiny2. It's a perfectly spot on cosplay of the character!

Did you think this was the game still?
This is the game still. That's the costume above.

Finally, Andy as K'thriss Drow'b from the Dungeons and Dragons streamed show, "the C team, from Acquisitions Incorporated"

Oh, but here's me again, fighting Catra! You can find her on Instagram @tabby_in_wonderland

In which we cosplay for honour

These years it seems that the only thing I blog is my annual London MCM Comic Con trip. There's so much work that goes into prepping it, and I am really proud of the final results.

This year we went as different playable heroes from the game For Honour. So here's the standard set of us four, plus our orgin characters.

Berserker

Conqueror

Nobushi
Peacekeeper
The naginata is actually made from a painted shower curtain rod, and some cardboard.

Fighting in the fields

We met some of the team who actually work on the game! They came over to say hello and admire their work.

Fear me.

I went on a bike.
Bonus photo. Ok, so obviously there are tens of thousands of people in cosplay. But this makes me happy because as we were coming in on the train last year the guy on the comm was joking around with us and said "in case you were wondering, I'm DLR man." This year, we saw this. Did they get mascot costumes just for comic con? I can believe it. I've never seen a specific London line have it's own costume. Now they had two!

Plus here's the bonus 'work in progress' pictures for my nobushi!

Painting and creating the kimono jacket.
Progress from kid axes to cosplay axes.

Creating the 'wooden' mask.
Making 'bamboo' leg guards from foam.

In which ComicCon got Overwatched

The most important pictures I'll take every year are my annual ComicCon photos. And this year is no exception. My crew went as 4 'casual' versions of characters from the ridiculously popular game Overwatch. Honestly, we were unprepared to see about 100 other people in the same charcters as us. But we still rocked it.

As usual, I'm going to do the 'side by sides' of our photos & our characters. Plus the best.

So I went as D.va. She's the mech-wearing pro-gamer selfie-loving badass that is my 'main' in the game. Here's what she looks like out of her mech-suit.

I went as a 'casual' version of her, taking lots of elements from her costume and re-doing them for what might be her normal wear. I was also heavily inspired by the existing fanart. This year I didn't have as much time to make things from scratch. But the jacket was dyed from an original white version, with the patches sewn on. The headphones and the little bunny charm were also hadmade by me.

The art by  Jason Chan that was my main inspiration.

Just to get a sense of how many D.va there were:

The whole gang.

My husband as McCree

I actually made lots of the elements here too. The little scarf, the elbow piece and the skull on his robot arm which we worked on making together.

And for the fans....

Some of my other top Overwatch cosplays there:

And yes, there were people from other franchises present. For some reason this year I just didn't get many photos of them. But we did like this Steven Universe with dresses trio.

See you next year.
